Since ancient times, monasteries have been places where seekers could delve deeply into the deepest questions of life and death. But many of us do not have the luxury of traveling to a zen monastery or taking time off to visit one. Fortunately you don’t have to have the finds or time for it. You can create a meditation room like a zen monastery right in your home.

The spaces in our homes are often defined by the activities that are important to us. We have spaces for eating, sleeping, playing, and cooking. We label the rooms of our homes by what we do in them – dining, living, entertaining – or the objects we use in them – beds, TVs, baths.

Do we have spaces in our homes that feel like zen?

We all need a special place that we can escape to and connect with our own higher power. It helps heal our energy and keeps us balanced. In this space, you can reflect, meditate, or just sit in silence. A dedicated space collects and focuses your energy, removes uncertainty about what we should be doing (recharging, meditating, reflecting, etc), and, through habit and association, helps this activity become a consistent part of our lives. Much like an encounter with the refrigerator conjures thoughts of food, and a glance at the couch invites a comfortable sprawl, catching sight of your healing space will evoke your deepest yearnings and inspire you to disconnect and do your practice of choice.

You will be taking a courageous step in your spiritual development by creating an energy-space in your home. It will be a safe space to listen to your soul and get the answers to your questions. Energy healing spaces can be created anywhere, even a small corner in your bedroom. There are no rules to creating your own energy healing space. Follow your heart and put in everything that you love. The space should feel like serenity, it should be a place where you can just be alone and relaxed.

Follow your serenity and let’s get started. Here are some ideas to create a meditation room like a zen monastery.

Take into consideration the lighting, the quietness and how many people walk through it. If you don’t have a whole room to dedicate to your sacred space then choose a corner of a room, or somewhere in your yard. You may even like to put up a bamboo screen to create the feeling of a separate space.

2. Keep the room simple and uncluttered.

Choose a few items that find bring you peace and serenity. Some basics would be a meditation pillow, a yoga mat, and maybe a blanket.

3. Add a touch of nature.

Healing and recharging your energy is all about reconnecting with your inner self and energy. By adding an element of nature, you space becomes grounded and infused with balance and harmony. You can place your favorite plant, a vase of flowers, a small water feature or anything else that connects you to nature.
