What is ailing you?
Oral hygiene, bad breath, or cavities? Maybe you’re struggling with headaches or migraines. Could it be acne or toxins in your body? What about sleep issues, digestion, or hormones. Whatever it may be, oil pulling could be your solution.
What is oil pulling?
The simple answer is swishing a pure oil in your mouth for a few seconds then spitting it out.
Oil pulling is an Ayurvedic practice that includes swishing oil around in the mouth to draw toxins out of the body. This has been shown to help with issues like halitosis, gingivitis and dental plaque. Doing it regularly has been shown to improve the health of your hair, clear the skin, whiten teeth, eliminate parasites, reduce joint pain and improve overall body odor (1, 2, 3).
The idea is that the toxins and bacteria found in the body build up in our mouths. By swishing or holding oil in the mouth for a prolonged amount of time, the oil draws out these toxins and is discarded when you spit out the oil.
This one process does have been known to:
Whiten Your Teeth
Increase Oral Hygiene
Detox Your Body
Boost Your Immune System
One of the major oral bacteria is streptococcus mutans, and when left unchecked will multiply in the mouth and spread toxins into the body’s bloodstream. These toxins increase the inflammatory responses the contribute to chronic disease (4, 5).
Heard enough, ready to try?
Swish 1 tablespoon of coconut oil 10-15 minutes (it’s a long time but totally worth it)
Be sure not to swallow any of the oil (it’s drawing out toxins you don’t want to ingest)
Spit into the trash, rinse mouth, and brush teeth as normal
Repeat 3-5 times a week for optimal results.
Make sure to oil pull first thing in the morning. Before eating or drinking anything
Soon you’ll find yourself a changed person inside and out. Have you tried oil pulling yet? What has been your experience.
